A Microcontroller-Driven Automatic Bell System with Real-Time Precision, Audio Differentiation and Adaptive Features
Traditional automatic bell systems in educational institutions often lack adaptability to accommodate schedule deviations or to differentiate between diverse activities such as lectures, examinations, faculty meetings, and internal assessments. This paper presents the design and implementation of a programmable smart bell system based on Arduino hardware to address these limitations. The proposed system enables initial timing configuration, supports manual delay adjustments for unforeseen overruns, and provides distinct audible tones for multiple event categories, even under overlapping schedules. The architecture integrates an Arduino Uno microcontroller with a DS3231 real-time clock for precise synchronization, a 4×4 keypad for user input, and a 16×2 I2C LCD for real-time feedback.Audio playback is facilitated through a DFPlayer Mini module and an 8 Ω speaker, while an opto-isolated relay or solid-state relay (SSR) ensures safe control of a 230 VAC bell.Experimental validation demonstrates that the system offers a cost-effective, adaptable, and reliable solution for enhancing scheduling efficiency in academic environments.
