Structural Safety Evaluation and Design Method for Barrel-Support Brackets to Prevent Barrel Deflection in Large Automatic Fire Shutters

Large automatic fire shutters, widely used in expansive open spaces such as logistics facilities, are highly susceptible to barrel deflection and collapse when exposed to fire temperatures exceeding 1,000 ℃. However, the current Korean evaluation criterion, limited to 538 ℃, is insufficient for assessing their structural performance under realistic fire conditions. Therefore, this study evaluated barrel deflection and investigated the design of barrel-support brackets based on BS EN 15269-10 and BS EN 15269-11. The results revealed that, under the conditions established in this study, the barrel deflection exceeded the allowable limit in some configurations that were 6 m or greater in width. Furthermore, the minimum required load-bearing capacity of the barrel-support brackets was determined, confirming that the proposed design can effectively prevent excessive barrel deflection and ensure structural stability.
