On the Coupling of Reaction–Diffusion–Transport Equations With Biot's Poroelasticity Model: An Application to Meniscus Regeneration
ABSTRACT Regenerative medicine is a promising approach for the treatment of meniscus injuries. In silico experiments provide a valuable framework for optimizing such therapies by improving the understanding of both environmental effects on cell behavior and the interaction between cells and nonwoven scaffolds, which act as porous media supporting cell colonization. Based on a previously developed multiscale mathematical model; this work focuses on its numerical treatment and coupling with a poroelastic model. We describe both models in detail and discuss appropriate discretizations, as well as simulation results.
