THE ROLE OF MEDICAL PHYSICS IN IMPROVING DIAGNOSTIC IMAGING QUALITY
The contribution of Medical Physics to improve diagnostic images for four imaging modalities (digital X-ray, CT, MRI and ultrasound) is assessed in this study. The main physical parameters influencing image quality as well as the process of calibration of imaging equipment, quality control and dose optimization are described and discussed in detail. The role of Medical Physics to improve the performance of imaging modalities and to prevent errors in patient’s diagnosis and treatment is underlined. Modern diagnostic imaging is increasingly integrated with Artificial Intelligence (AI) in order to improve both accuracy and efficiency of healthcare. The basic principles of Medical Physics play a major role in producing high-quality diagnostic images in order to achieve and optimize optimal healthcare.
