Pesticide active ingredients listed in Annex I of Regulation (EU) 649/2012 that hold current authorisation in Peru: datasets and Stata code (SIGIA/SENASA, October 2026)

This deposit contains the input data, Stata code and output tables for a name-level match between two public pesticide registers: Annex I of Regulation (EU) 649/2012, the European Union’s Prior Informed Consent (PIC) Regulation, as published by the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) and extracted on 27 October 2026; and SIGIA (Sistema Integrado de Gestión de Insumos Agropecuarios), the agrochemical register of SENASA (Servicio Nacional de Sanidad Agraria), Peru, extracted on 4 October 2026. Annex I lists substances banned or severely restricted within the European Union and therefore subject to export control. The match establishes which of those active ingredients remain authorised for sale in Peru, and in how many products. SIGIA records up to four active ingredients per product in a single field; the code separates them into 6,842 product × active-ingredient records across 5,358 products and 396 distinct ingredients, then merges on a normalised ingredient name. Of the 242 pesticides approved for plant protection use in Annex I, 104 are present in SIGIA and 87 hold current authorisation. Those 87 are the active ingredients of 1,888 of the 4,673 currently authorised products, 40.4% of the register. Mancozeb, whose European approval was not renewed in 2020, is the active ingredient of 181 of them. Seventeen listed ingredients, among them chlorpyrifos, methamidophos, carbofuran and paraquat, appear in SIGIA with all Peruvian authorisations withdrawn. These materials were produced for an environmental epidemiology study of pesticide exposure and maternal thyroid function in an agricultural basin of Arequipa, Peru, where they establish that ethylenebisdithiocarbamate (EBDC) fungicides circulate in the setting in which their urinary metabolite is to be measured. Matching is by exact active-ingredient name, so salts and esters recorded differently in either register are not captured and the counts are a lower bound. “Banned” and “severely restricted” refer to status within the European Union; the substances remain legally exportable under prior notification. Both registers are dynamic and these are dated snapshots. Full method, file inventory and limitations are in README.md.
