Managing the hits: managerial insights and stories from 7 decades of the British album charts
The British pop album charts celebrated their 70th anniversary in July 2026. This came at a time in history when pop acts are part of the government’s discourse on both economic and soft power. This article examines some of the management stories behind British acts who reached Number 1 on those charts. It explores different forms of management from the 1950s up until 2026.
