Infecções fúngicas invasivas e diabetes mellitus tipo 2: uma revisão sistemática de prevalência e meta-análise

Introduction: Diabetes mellitus is associated with an increased risk of developing infections caused by antimicrobial-resistant microorganisms, but there is still a lack of evidence synthesis related to invasive fungal infections and diabetes mellitus. Objective: To determine the prevalence of invasive fungal infections in patients with type 2 diabetes. Methods: This was a systematic review of prevalence and meta-analysis. The protocol was registered under number CRD42021288239. Methodological quality assessment was performed using the Joana Briggs Institute Critical Appraisal Checklist for Studies Reporting Prevalence Data. The quality of evidence synthesis was assessed using the Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development and Evaluation. Prevalence across studies was calculated by random-effects meta-analysis using the PERSyst-MA tool version 1.0. Results: Of 10,343 studies found in the databases and after the selection process, three studies were included in the systematic review consisting of 39,216 participants. The prevalence of invasive fungal infection in patients with type 2 diabetes was 4.48% (95% confidence intervals: 1.03%-10.15%). Two of the studies met all items assessed for methodological quality. The certainty of evidence synthesis was very low. Conclusion: This systematic review summarized the overall prevalence rate of invasive fungal infection in patients with type 2 diabetes, which was 4.48%. The main species found were Candida, Cryptococcus and Aspergillus. However, further studies on the subject in question are needed. Key words: Diabetes Mellitus; invasive fungal infections; Candida; Cryptococcus; Aspergillus.
