Building stock envelope morphology under changing climate regimes

GlobalBuildingAtlas (GBA) descriptors and projected Köppen-Geiger classes provide a basis for comparing selected building-stock contexts. We examine existing summaries from six 5° × 5° regions, preserving the reported inventory of 12,587,470 records and geometry sample of 1,397,691 polygons. For an above-ground gross LoD1 prism, the façade and roof-plan components are FVR = P/A and RVR = 1/H. Their reported median ranges are 0.247 and 0.058 m −1 . Excluding each region in turn gives FVR-to-RVR range ratios of 3.12–6.33, so the descriptive contrast is not attributable to one region alone. Analytical height perturbations distinguish common offsets from region-specific offsets: a common ± 2 m shift retains the wider FVR range, whereas adversarial region-specific offsets within approximately ± 1.35 m can equalise the ranges. These assumed offsets are stress tests, not measured height errors. Late-century climate-subclass transitions under SSP5-8.5 span 0–88.9% at the reported sample locations. The results describe component contrasts, their conditional sensitivity and distinct climate profiles. They support exploratory stock characterisation; they do not establish spatial representativeness, local height accuracy or energy-performance priorities.
