Lighting Manipulation in Poultry Incubation from 2000 to 2025: A Focused Scopus-Based Bibliometric Analysis

The manipulation of light during poultry incubation has become of greater interest as a way to control embryonic development and enhance post-hatch performance. The research landscape within the retrieved literature, however, remains fragmented. This study aimed to conduct a focused Scopus-based bibliometric analysis of research trends, collaboration networks, and emerging themes in studies of lighting manipulation for poultry incubation between 2000 and 2025. The data were extracted from the Scopus database and analyzed using the bibliometrix package in RStudio. A total of 74 English-language research articles retrieved from Scopus were analyzed for publication trends, countries, institutions, authors, citations, and keyword patterns. The results indicate that the number of research publications has increased considerably in recent years, particularly after 2019. The United States and China were the joint leading contributors by publication output within the retrieved dataset, while international co-authorship remained limited. Key research areas included embryonic development, hatchability, photoperiod, incubation lighting, light color, and physiological responses, while recent research increasingly addressed welfare, photostimulation, stress-related responses, and LED-based lighting. Overall, this study highlights key knowledge gaps and identifies areas where standardized reporting and experimental comparison are needed.

The manipulation of light during poultry incubation has become of greater interest as a way to control embryonic development and enhance post-hatch performance. The research landscape within the retrieved literature, however, remains fragmented.
