Numerical analysis of Blasius boundary layer flow over a flat plate using the central difference method

In this study, we explore the mathematical formulation of the incompressible Navier-Stokes equation which is analyzed along with boundary layer flow induced by a flat surface. The Blasius equation which describes the spatial fractional derivative is first derived through a transformation. We present the explicit solution to the Blasius equation within the boundary-layer region and numerical results will be incremented by applying MATLAB software. The numerical results are obtained by a shooting method which is a combination of shifted Grünwald formula and classical RK-Five method as the iterative scheme. This new solution remains an accurate reference to validate the level of precision of all approaches used for the resolution of the differential equation encountered in the field of design while compared to the other way for a suitably small step. Therefore, the derivative approximation method offers a new simple and easy approach to solving additional differential equations which illustrate difficulties similar to that the of the Blasius equation. According to the base flow profile study, viscoelastic fluid flows faster than viscous fluid in the boundary layer at the surface under the same external flow. As the values decrease, the viscoelastic fluid moves closer to the plate.
