No‐Preparation Resin‐Bonded Fixed Dental Prostheses for Anterior Tooth Replacement: A Clinical Case Series

OBJECTIVE: To describe a no-preparation approach for anterior tooth replacement with resin-bonded fixed dental prostheses (RBFDPs) across several clinical indications. CLINICAL CONSIDERATIONS: In this retrospective case series, six patients aged 16-54 years, received seven anterior RBFDPs. Six were single-retainer cantilever prostheses, and one was a two-retainer (fixed-fixed) prosthesis selected for a post-orthodontic indication. Treatment without tooth preparation was selected only when the existing abutment contour and the occlusal relationship provided adequate enamel bonding area, a minimum retainer thickness of 1.0 mm, a minimum connector height of 5.0 mm, cleansable contours, and freedom from centric and excursive interference. The indications included congenital tooth absence, unsuccessful endodontic treatment, severe periodontal breakdown, avoidance of implant-related surgery, impacted and supernumerary teeth, and an altered post-orthodontic tooth position. All prostheses were fabricated from pressed lithium disilicate, veneered with a low-fusing ceramic, and bonded under rubber dam isolation. Follow-up available for four cases ranged from 1 to 3 years, during which no complications were recorded. All patients reported satisfaction with the color and shape of their restorations. CONCLUSIONS: In these selected cases, the existing lingual contour of the abutment teeth and the occlusal relationship provided sufficient space for the required retainer dimensions and occlusal clearance, allowing the RBFDPs to be fabricated without tooth preparation. Careful case selection preserved tooth structure while meeting the material and functional requirements for fit and occlusion.
