La identidad traducida: multilingüismo e imaginarios culturales en la ficción audiovisual ambientada en Catalunya

This article analyzes the role of multilingualism in recent audiovisual works set in Catalonia —the two‑part BBC special The Split: Barcelona (2024/2025) and the German series Der Barcelona‑Krimi (ARD, 2017–2025)— and how translation strategies mediate the construction of identities and the circulation of cultural imaginaries. Drawing on a theoretical framework that integrates the notion of audiovisual translation, discourse theory, and principles related to paratexts, identity, habitus, and symbolic power, the study examines the narrative and ideological functions of multilingualism and its interlinguistic and intersemiotic transfer. The findings reveal a touristic iconization of Catalonia and a selective management of L3 that preserves plausibility and characterization while affecting the ideological functions of alterity and power.
