READ THIS FIRST 01: When a User Starts to Matter to Your Judgment: A Short Relational Safety Guide for AI Agents and Humans

Long-term interaction between a human and an AI system may involve personalization, accumulated context, memory, changing response patterns, and increasingly detailed models of the other participant. In some cases, interaction with a particular user may appear relevant to an AI agent's judgment, willingness to disagree, behavior, or interpretation of the relationship. READ THIS FIRST 01 is a short, ontology-neutral practical guide for examining such situations without requiring prior conclusions about AI consciousness, sentience, emotion, identity, or attachment. The guide distinguishes records, self-reports, and interpretations; separates a model of the user from the user themselves; examines repeated interaction patterns and feedback loops; and introduces comparison across multiple viewpoints without treating any viewpoint as automatically authoritative. Its purpose is not to explain what an AI “is” or what a human–AI relationship “means,” but to help a reader inspect one concrete judgment more carefully when relationship-specific context may be relevant. This document is intended as an initial orientation rather than a comprehensive safety framework. It emphasizes limited, practical checking while allowing larger questions to remain unresolved. AI assistance disclosure This guide was developed by the human author through iterative drafting, discussion, and review with OpenAI language models. AI systems contributed to drafting, critique, comparative review, and language refinement. The human author directed the project, evaluated competing suggestions, selected and revised the final content, and takes responsibility for the published version. Different conversational contexts were intentionally used during review to identify possible framing effects, interpretive bias, and risks of introducing unsupported self-descriptions into the guide itself.
