Revealing the Values of Eco-theological Islamic Education in the Blora Manganan Tradition through the Perspective of Scientia Sacra Nasr
The global environmental crisis stems from the modern desacralization of nature. This study explores the Manganan tradition in Blora, Indonesia, as a living system of Eco-theological Islamic Education through Seyyed Hossein Nasr’s Scientia Sacra. Using a qualitative phenomenological design, this study collected data through participant observation, semi-structured interviews with six informants, and documentation in Panolan Village, Blora, in July 2025. The data were analyzed using phenomenological-hermeneutic interpretation and validated through source and time triangulation. The research reveals three core dimensions. First, ontologically, the community maintains a sapiental vision perceiving nature as a Theophany (Tajalli) -a living reflection of the Divine- rejecting materialist commodification. Second, ethically, the ritual restores the human role from the exploitative Promethean Man to the stewarding Pontifical Man (Khalifah), interpreting environmental degradation through spiritual causality. Third, pedagogically, the tradition operates as a Pedagogy of the Sacred, transmitting values through embodied knowledge and mimesis rather than theoretical instruction. This study concludes that Manganan transcends cultural preservation, functioning as a resilient eco-theological mechanism that offers a spiritual counter-narrative to secular modernity and fosters grassroots environmental sustainability.
