THE AXIOLOGICAL APPROACH IN MUSIC EDUCATION: DEVELOPING STUDENTS' VALUES THROUGH MUSICAL LEARNING

This article examines the axiological approach as a theoretical and methodological foundation for contemporary music education. The approach places values-such as cultural identity, empathy, respect, creativity, cooperation, and responsibility-at the centre of musical learning. Rather than treating music lessons only as the acquisition of performance skills or theoretical knowledge, an axiological perspective views music as a means of personal development, cultural dialogue, and ethical reflection. The article discusses the concept of values in education, the educational potential of musical experience, and practical strategies for integrating value-oriented learning into school and teacher-training contexts. Particular attention is given to culturally responsive repertoire, reflective listening, collaborative performance, creative tasks, and assessment methods that recognise both musical progress and personal engagement. The article argues that value formation should not be reduced to moral instruction or imposed interpretations of musical works. Instead, learners should be supported in exploring diverse musical meanings, articulating their responses, and engaging respectfully with different traditions. The paper concludes with recommendations for curriculum design, teacher preparation, and further research.
