Artificial Intelligence as a Cybersecurity Support Tool for Nontechnical Users

This research examines the effectiveness of artificial intelligence as a cybersecurity support tool for nontechnical users. The study evaluated ChatGPT, Google Gemini, and Claude 3 across five simulated cybersecurity scenarios involving phishing attempts, password reuse, fraudulent online stores, and suspicious security alerts. Using a standardized rubric, the study compared each model's threat recognition, safety recommendations, cybersecurity knowledge, clarity, and reliability. The findings highlight conversational AI's potential to improve cybersecurity awareness while also showing limitations in the accuracy, accessibility, and reliability of AI-generated security advice. The study emphasizes the importance of independent verification and human judgment when using AI to navigate online threats.
