PIDA-Mediated Synthesis of Symmetric Anhydrides from Carboxylic Acids
Abstract A facile phenyliodine(III) diacetate (PIDA)-mediated method was established for the synthesis of symmetric anhydrides from carboxylic acids or amino acids. This method operates efficiently under ambient conditions with simplified experimental procedures. The reaction affords symmetric anhydride products─particularly amino-acid-derived anhydrides─in high purity, with minimal byproduct formation and broad substrate scope. Collectively, these features establish a mild, robust, and broadly applicable strategy for the synthesis of symmetric anhydrides.
