AtlasDB: Design and Architecture of an Embedded Relational Database Engine in Go
AtlasDB is an embedded relational database engine written in Go. This paper presents the design and architecture of AtlasDB, covering the core components involved in processing SQL queries and managing persistent data. The design discusses page-oriented storage, database paging and buffer management, B+ tree indexing, the SQL execution pipeline, write-ahead logging (WAL), and crash-recovery mechanisms. It describes how these components fit together to form a database engine and outlines the implementation considerations associated with building relational database infrastructure from scratch. AtlasDB is an independent software engineering project intended to explore database internals and the architecture of relational database systems. The accompanying source code and technical documentation are available in the project's public repository. Implementation details and feature completeness should be evaluated against the published source code and tests. This document is a technical research and design artifact; it does not claim peer review or independent validation of performance or correctness.
