Auditory distraction and report dynamics in two behavioral archives

Group distraction effects do not necessarily imply stable individual differences across auditory tasks. We reanalyzed two existing behavioral archives with separate questions and analysis histories. In 27 listeners performing duration discrimination, salient distractors increased errors for tones, frequency sweeps and syllables, reproducing directions already reported by the source investigators. The locally specified primary test of cross-task accuracy-disruption ranks did not pass: mean Spearman correlation was 0.056813, with a one-sided 200,000-permutation p value of 0.302638. A second, explicitly retrospective analysis of 28 listeners and 22,400 near-threshold tone/catch trials found a late-minus-early awareness AUC change of −0.055526, 95% bootstrap interval [−0.083304, −0.028938]. Catch false alarms were more frequent after an aware report, but forced pitch choices on silent trials did not track the analyst-reconstructed packet depletion state. The latter endpoint omitted 108 structurally undefined packet pairs; a disclosed post-outcome smoothed sensitivity remained null-like. October 2026 replay reproduced the saved analyses on the same inputs. The findings support task- and report-dependent behavioral effects, while leaving general susceptibility, measurement reliability and temporal criterion changes unresolved. Neither archive measures felt safety or identifies a physiological control circuit. This is an author preprint and has not been peer reviewed. The supplement provides author code and aggregate results only. No individual/trial data are redistributed, and the package is not a self-contained raw-to-results reproduction. See the manuscript and methods history for the preserved nulls, unexecuted checks and provenance limitations.
