Pendidikan Islam sebagai Fondasi Pendidikan Karakter

The instillation of moral and religious values in education is not yet fully reflected in students’ behavior, so strengthening character education remains a challenge. This study aimed to analyze Islamic education as a foundation for character education, particularly in developing noble character through the internalization of Islamic values. The study employed a qualitative approach with a library research method and a descriptive-analytical design. Data sources included the Qur’an and Hadith as normative sources and scholarly journal articles relevant to Islamic education and character education as secondary sources. Data were collected through documentation and literature review and then analyzed using content analysis and thematic analysis. The findings showed that Islamic education orients character development toward faith, piety, and noble character grounded in the Qur’an and Hadith. Character development is not limited to the transmission of knowledge but requires role modeling, habituation, and the practice of Islamic values in daily life within school, family, and community settings. Thus, Islamic education provides a normative and practical foundation for the holistic development of students’ character. These findings underscore the importance of integrating religious understanding with the practice of Islamic values as a basis for strengthening character education across educational settings.
