A revisão da lei de arquivos e o PL nº 2.789/2021: um relato de experiência sobre a mobilização da comunidade arquivística brasileira
The institutionalization of Archival Science in Brazil is historically marked by the actions of organized civil movements. Bill No. 2,789/2021, which aims to modernize the Archives Law (Law No. 8,159/1991), has reignited this mobilization. This article aims to report the experience of updating the aforementioned legislation, highlighting the protagonism of civil society, led by the National Forum of Archival Science Associations of Brazil (FNArq) and the Broad Front in Favor of the Archives Law. The methodology is based on a literature review, documentary research, and an experience report from the Working Group that drafted the substitute text for the Bill. The study recalls the associational history, from the Association of Brazilian Archivists (AAB) in the 1970s to recent articulations proposing conceptual and structural innovations, such as the establishment of the National Archives Network (RENAR). It concludes that strengthening representative entities is essential for formulating public archival policies aligned with the technical requirements of the field and the interests of society.
