The Context-Weighted Intention-Outcome Paradox (CWOIP)

AbstractThis manuscript proposes the Contextual Weighting of Intention and Outcome Principle (CWOIP), a conceptual framework for analysing situations in which intention-related considerations and outcome-related considerations support different evaluations or decisions. The framework is motivated by an interpersonal dilemma involving unintended distress, neurodivergent characteristics, personal boundaries, and the long-term sustainability of a relationship. Its intended scope, however, is broader than interpersonal relationships. The framework has two analytically distinct branches. Branch I specifies the evaluative conflict between intention and observed outcome. Branch II investigates whether and how the relative importance assigned to these considerations changes with context, uncertainty, repetition, severity, adaptability, available alternatives, and temporal horizon. A weighted decision function is presented as one possible formalisation, not as a universal moral law. Constraint-based and non-compensatory decision rules are also considered because some rights, safety requirements, and operational constraints cannot appropriately be exchanged for improvements in another score.A state-space representation, a cumulative-impact model, a contextual weighting function, a cross-domain research architecture, and a falsifiability protocol are proposed. The manuscript distinguishes conceptual generalisation from empirical validation and distinguishes structural analogies across disciplines from demonstrated equivalence of mechanisms. Thirty candidate case studies and a fourteen-stage research protocol are specified. No empirical findings, universal parameters, or established causal relationships are claimed. The framework remains a research proposal whose novelty, predictive value, measurement validity, and domain-specific applicability require systematic comparison with existing literature and independent empirical testing.
