Semiotics Content Analysis of: Nina the Starry Bride Anime Series
This study presents a Visual Semiotics Analysis and Content Analysis of Nina the Starry Bride anime, focusing on how the design of romantic characters communicates ideals of attraction, personality and relationship roles. Fifteen figures from Nina the Starry Bride anime were examined as visual signs through Visual Semiotics Analysis and Content Analysis, with attention to colour, clothing, facial expression, body position, space and light. Cultivation Theory and Social Cognitive Theory served as the theoretical framework, and earlier research on parasocial bonds, identification and fictional ideals was used to interpret the readings. The analysis revealed a consistent visual pattern: pink tones, soft light and large blue eyes marked the heroine as innocent and gentle; dark blue, white and gold marked the male characters as calm and high in rank; and red and gold interiors, concealed faces and small hidden gestures signalled wealth, power and secrecy. The study is exploratory and interpretive. No viewers were surveyed, so the findings indicate possible links between character design and relationship expectations rather than proven effects. It is also noted that no earlier study has tested whether specific design features relate to expectations about attraction, communication, loyalty and emotional support, which marks a direction for future research with viewers.
