Frenectomia lingual no tratamento da anquiloglossia: relato de experiência em clínica odontológica

Ankyloglossia is a congenital alteration of the lingual frenulum that may restrict tongue mobility and impair functions such as sucking, swallowing, chewing, and speech. In cases of significant functional impairment, lingual frenectomy represents a therapeutic option within the field of oral surgery. This study aimed to report the experience gained while following a lingual frenectomy performed on an adult patient with ankyloglossia, addressing the diagnosis, surgical planning, execution of the technique, and postoperative outcomes. This is an experience report with a qualitative and descriptive approach, developed during the supervised clinical training of the Basic Integrated Clinic I course within the Dentistry program at FIMCA College, in Cacoal, Rondônia, Brazil, in 2025. The procedure was performed on an adult male patient under local anesthesia, with removal of the frenulum fibers responsible for restricting tongue movements, followed by suturing and postoperative follow-up. The results demonstrated a significant improvement in tongue mobility, particularly in protrusion and elevation movements, with no intraoperative complications and a satisfactory postoperative course. The experience provided an opportunity to integrate theoretical and practical knowledge, highlighting the importance of accurate diagnosis and careful surgical indication. It is concluded that lingual frenectomy may contribute to improving tongue mobility and oral functions in patients with ankyloglossia and functional impairment.
