Mapping the Intellectual Landscape of Green Hotel Purchase Intentions among Millennials: A Bibliometric Analysis
This study explores the intellectual, conceptual, and thematic progression of research comprising millennials' green hotel purchase intentions through a bibliometric method. The study utilizes performance analysis and science mapping techniques with VOSviewer, based on 1,747 peer-reviewed articles indexed in the Scopus database between 2015 to 2025. The study exceeds mere descriptive reporting by incorporating prevailing theoretical frameworks, specifically the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) and Value-Belief-Norm (VBN) theory, to elucidate the mechanisms driving green hotel consumption. Findings have identified six major clusters: psychological determinants, generational behavior, consumer purchase intention, environmental practices, marketing communication, and sustainable tourism systems. The findings indicate a robust theoretical convergence surrounding the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB), alongside the emergence of themes including reservations towards greenwashing, digital influence, and the formation of trust. Findings of the study offer a structured framework to provide direction to future researchers in the field of sustainable tourism and hospitality.
