Hero Simulation: An Interactive Game-Based Educational Approach to Safe Medication Use and Bullying Prevention among Elementary School Students
Background: Self-medication has become prevalent among elementary students, yet their knowledge regarding safe medication use is limited. This poses a risk of medication misuse among children. Additionally, bullying remains a critical issue in the school environment. Therefore, targeted education on the safe use of medications and the prevention of bullying is essential.Aims: This program aimed to enhance elementary school students’ knowledge regarding safe medication practices and bullying prevention. Methods: This program involved 47 sixth-grade elementary school students. Educational sessions on safe medication use and bullying prevention were delivered through an interactive, game-based approach. The program was evaluated using a one-group pretest-posttest design. Results: A total of 47 participants took part in the event. The educational activities consisted of interactive lectures, demonstrations, educational games, and the recitation of the Heroes’ Pledge. The participants engaged with the activities with great enthusiasm. The evaluation showed an average pre-test score of 18.79 ± 1.59 and an average post-test score of 19.25 ± 1.36, representing an enhancement of 2.45%. A significant difference was found between pre-test and post-test scores (p-value = 0.003).Conclusion: This program effectively enhanced participants’ knowledge regarding safe medication use and bullying prevention. It has the potential to serve as an educational initiative that can be implemented on an ongoing basis in school settings.
