Asian contributions to endourological stone surgery since in the past decade: what has been achieved and what comes next? A scoping review

Over the past decade, technological advancements such as single-use flexible ureteroscopes, suction-assisted access sheaths, miniaturized percutaneous techniques, and endoscopic combined intrarenal surgery (ECIRS) have transformed the management of urinary stone disease. Many of these innovations were developed, clinically validated, or implemented at scale within Asian medical centers. This scoping review systematically maps these pivotal contributions published since 1st January 2016. Following the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) methodology and the PRISMA extension for Scoping Reviews (PRISMA-ScR), we mapped evidence across six retrograde and three antegrade technology paradigms. The review categorizes contributions into innovation reports, randomized controlled trials (RCTs), and large multicenter registries/databases to characterize the existing evidence base, identify research gaps, and highlight clinical priorities for future international collaborations.
