Professionalism and Growth Pathways of Education Graduates: The Contribution of Work Experience
The professionalism and career growth pathways of education graduates from Indiana Aerospace University and private schools in Lapu-Lapu City between 2021 and 2025. Anchored in Kolb’s Experiential Learning, Bandura’s Social Learning, and Super’s Career Development theories, it explores how practical work experience enhances graduates’ teaching competencies, professional ethics, and career development. The research employed a quantitative descriptive design with 100 respondents comprising education graduates from Indiana Aerospace University and private schools in Lapu-Lapu City, selected through stratified random sampling. Data were collected via structured questionnaires distributed through Google Forms, focusing on respondents’ profiles, work experience, professionalism, growth, and encountered challenges. Findings show that education graduates strongly agree on the vital role of work experience in developing practical skills, professional conduct, confidence, and continuous learning opportunities. Graduates report that hands-on experience positively influences their problem-solving abilities, adaptability, and clarity in career goals. However, significant challenges include poor professionalism among colleagues, inconsistent professional behavior, lack of support for growth, and limited career advancement opportunities, which adversely impact the work environment and motivation. The study concludes that work experience is pivotal in fostering professionalism and career growth in education graduates, reinforcing practical training and ongoing professional development. Recommendations include implementing clear professional standards, enhancing support for growth initiatives, and establishing career advancement pathways to address identified problems. The proposed action plan aims to promote a positive work environment, ethical conduct, and sustained professional development, ultimately improving educational outcomes and graduate employability.
