Social Studies Teachers’ Strategies for Addressing Boredom Among Seventh-Grade Students at SMP Negeri 3 Pontianak

This study aims to describe the strategies used by Social Studies teachers to respond to student boredom in Grade VII at SMP Negeri 3 Pontianak. The study employed a descriptive qualitative approach involving one Grade VII Social Studies teacher as an informant. Data were collected through one semi-structured interview, with observation and documentation serving as supporting data. Data analysis involved data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing and verification. The findings indicate that the teacher reported several strategies, including relating learning materials to students’ daily lives, using ice-breaking activities, grouping students, and adjusting instructional approaches to classroom characteristics. These findings suggest that the teacher considers students’ conditions and classroom situations when determining responses to boredom. However, this study did not measure the effectiveness of these strategies in reducing student boredom.
