Black Olives in Children's Healthy Diet: The Role of Their Nutritional Compounds
A healthy and balanced diet plays an essential role in children’s growth, development, and overall well-being. Black olives are among the food products that can contribute to dietary diversity due to their fat content, phenolic compounds, and other nutritional components. Their nutritional properties, however, may vary depending on the processing method, preservation conditions, and the amount of salt used during production. This study aims to examine the role of black olives in children’s healthy dietary patterns, with particular attention to their nutritional composition, antioxidant compounds, and the effects of processing methods on product quality. It also discusses the importance of considering sodium intake when including processed olive products in children’s diets. The study was conducted using a descriptive review of relevant scientific literature and technical information on black olive processing. The findings suggest that black olives can be included as part of a varied and balanced diet, provided that their salt content and serving size are taken into account. Nevertheless, black olives should not be considered a complete source of essential nutrients or a substitute for other food groups. Appropriate food choices, dietary diversity, and attention to children’s nutritional needs are important factors in supporting healthy growth and development.
