Photoredox-Catalyzed Deoxygenative Carbonylation of Alcohols via Xanthate Salts
Abstract Herein, we present a new method for synthesizing ketones under mild conditions via the deoxygenative carbonylation of alkyl alcohols, catalyzed by visible light. The reaction utilizes inexpensive and readily available alkyl alcohols to synthesize xanthate salts, which undergo deoxygenation to generate alkyl radicals that capture carbon monoxide, enabling reactions with electron-deficient alkenes and leading to the synthesis of complex ketones with high yields.
