E8-Topological Acoustic Metamaterials via Root Vector Projection — E8 Intelligence Research

By projecting the E8 root system onto three dimensions through a golden-ratio cut-and-project scheme, we identify a family of phononic crystals whose band structures replicate the 8D root lattice mapped to icosahedral quasicrystal symmetry. The 240 minimal vectors group into 24 orthogonal sets of ten, each defining distinct phononic mode families with continuously tunable dispersion curves via golden-ratio scaling. This construction produces broadband acoustic isolation and topologically protected sound transmission channels, leveraging the same mathematical framework that generated the icosahedral quasicrystal. Unlike conventional Bragg-structured materials, these metamaterials exhibit intrinsic robustness due to the fractal self-similarity inherited from the E8 root system. Abstract
