DELAD – an initiative for facilitating sharing of corpora of speech disorders: Progress and survey-based insights
DELAD provides a forum for addressing technical, legal and ethical issues in sharing disordered speech data and supports secure, responsible archiving. We organise workshops and invite researchers to discuss open-access practices. Suggestions and action points raised by workshop participants are systematically followed up and integrated into the ongoing work. This paper reports on the developments of DELAD which included the new 'Corpora of Disordered Speech' entry in the CLARIN Resource Families, listing 32 datasets, with key metadata and descriptions. The seventh DELAD workshop was held alongside the 21st International Congress of Linguists in Poznań, 2024. The programme covered advances in data sharing infrastructures, metadata design and the balance between transparency and security, with a focus on the potential of large language models in disordered-speech research. Our online survey about data sharing experiences revealed a conflict between the demand for data reuse and the capacity to share. DELAD welcomes collaboration that aligns with its mission.
