An Art Therapy Program Design for Anti-Bullying in New Jersey Middle Schools
This thesis proposes an art therapy based anti-bullying program for a model school in New Jersey. The program design responds to strict Anti-Harassment, Intimidation, and Bullying (Anti-HIB) regulations mandated for NJ schools by the Anti-Bullying Bill of Rights (ABR). The target population is middle school (grades 7 and 8), which exhibits the highest rate of HIB activity. Programmatic art therapy services focus on prevention through an art-based anti-bullying club, after school open studio, and psychoeducational application of group art therapy addressing HIB curriculum. Art therapy is also advised for the intervention and remediation of HIB incidents, as necessary.
