Smarter Smiles: Revolutionizing Paediatric Dentistry with Artificial Intelligence – A Review

Abstract Artificial intelligence (AI) is rapidly transforming paediatric dentistry by supporting dentists in diagnosis, treatment planning, behaviour management, and patient education. AI-based technologies such as machine learning and deep learning enable accurate interpretation of dental images, early detection of caries, prediction of eruption patterns, and identification of developmental anomalies. In addition, AI powered mobile applications, virtual assistants, and chatbots improve communication, reduce dental anxiety, and enhance oral health education among children and parents. These digital tools help personalise care while reducing clinical workload and improving efficiency. This review highlights the evolution of AI in paediatric dentistry, its key applications across behavioural management, diagnostics, forensic identification, and patient communication, as well as its benefits, challenges, and future potential in improving child centred dental care.
