Standardizing Corrosion Control for Coastal Renewable-Energy Installations
Coastal photovoltaic and battery-energy-storage installations expose enclosures, raceways, terminations, fasteners, and connector interfaces to chloride-bearing atmospheres, where service life depends on more than minimum electrical-code compliance. On a single site, selecting corrosion-resistant materials is manageable; across a multi-site portfolio, the harder problem is preserving that intent through design transfer, procurement, and construction. This article presents a methodology for standardizing atmospheric corrosion control across a multi-island photovoltaic and battery-energy-storage municipal program in Hawaii. It discusses how a corrosion-control specification was incorporated into the construction document package and applied as a repeatable framework for protecting outdoor equipment in coastal environments.
