On the Prospects of Using Artificial Intelligence in the Instrumental Detection of Concealed Information

The possibilities of using artificial intelligence technologies as an auxiliary tool for automating psychophysiological examinations involving a polygraph are examined. Certain legal, procedural, and ethical barriers that make it impossible to eliminate the subjective element from the polygraph examiner’s work are identified. A conclusion has been reached regarding the need to transform, rather than abolish, the polygraph examiner profession.

Abstract

The possibilities of using artificial intelligence technologies as an auxiliary tool for automating psychophysiological examinations involving a polygraph are examined. Certain legal, procedural, and ethical barriers that make it impossible to eliminate the subjective element from the polygraph examiner’s work are identified. A conclusion has been reached regarding the need to transform, rather than abolish, the polygraph examiner profession.
