SYNTACTIC FORMATION AND LINGUISTIC MODELS OF PILGRIMAGE TOURISM UNITS IN ARABIC

The paper studies the syntactic way of forming pilgrimage tourism units in Arabic, that is, the creation of multi-word terms from free word combinations. The material is drawn from the Arabic and English editions of the official Hajj and Umrah guides of the Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah. Nine structural models are identified: attributive (N + Adj), genitive (iḍāfa), multi-member genitive chains, mixed genitive-attributive, double attributive, prepositional, verbal-noun (maṣdar), coordinative and appositive. The genitive and attributive models are shown to be the core of the system, while long mixed models name new digital and transport services. The results are useful for terminography and for teaching Arabic to translators.
