KARAKTERISTIK DAN PEMBEDA KARYA TULIS ILMIAH DENGAN KARYA TULIS NONILMIAH: KAJIAN LITERATUR
The abundance of information requires students to be able to distinguish between writing that adheres to scientific principles and writing that does not. This study aims to describe the characteristics of scientific writing, identify the characteristics of non-scientific writing, and analyze the differences between the two. A literature review method with a qualitative descriptive approach was employed, examining eight scientific journal articles published between 2021 and 2026; the data were analyzed through reduction, thematic categorization, and synthesis. The findings indicate that scientific writing is characterized by objectivity, logical consistency, systematic structure, support from verifiable evidence and references, and the use of precise, standard language. In contrast, non-scientific writing tends to emphasize personal experience, perspectives, imagination, or serves informative and entertainment functions, with more flexible criteria for substantiation. The primary differences between the two lie in their writing objectives, their objective or subjective nature, their structural presentation, their use of language, and the role of data and references. Both types of writing serve distinct functions; therefore, this comparison is not intended to suggest that one is superior to the other. These findings can serve as a reference for students in selecting and applying appropriate writing conventions based on the purpose of their work.
