TMF Biological Extension: Life as a K_opt Maintenance System — Biological Structures as Natural Casimir Cavities (Working Document Q46)
This document extends the TMF engineering programme (Q45) to biological systems, addressing five questions (Q46.1–Q46.5). Q46.1 establishes that protein cavities (R ~ 2–5 nm) generate Casimir energy densities 8,000–125,000× greater than the Q45 laboratory cavity (d = 100 nm), placing biology in a far more effective K-modulation regime than any current laboratory apparatus. Q46.2 proposes topological stabilisation of K coherence via toroidal protein geometry (T² = S¹ × S¹), without continuous energy input. Q46.3 estimates that enzyme turnover number k_cat offers a ~3,000× SNR advantage over ³²Si decay counting as a σ_vac sensor. Q46.4 proposes a three-enzyme falsification experiment: Δk_cat/k_cat must scale as 1/R_bio³, directly analogous to the Q45 1/d³ Casimir scaling criterion. Q46.5 formalises the speculative hypothesis "Life = natural K_opt maintenance cycle" with two explicit falsification criteria (F-Bio-1: 1/R³ scaling; F-Bio-2: native vs denatured protein). All sections carry appropriate epistemic labels ([PARTIAL DEDUCTION], [CONDITIONAL ESTIMATE], [SPECULATIVE HYPOTHESIS]). No biological experiments have been performed.
