From Awareness to Action: Evaluating the Role of Personalized Digital Feedback in Shifting Urban Transportation Habits—Evidence from the TrueCost Study

This paper presents an exploratory study of TrueCost, a digital behavioral and environmental economics project investigating whether personalized feedback about transportation-related emissions can influence urban travel choices in Uzbekistan. Using self-reported transportation records collected through a digital platform and responses to an exit survey, the study examines changes in recorded travel patterns and estimated greenhouse gas emissions before and during the feedback intervention. It also explores participants’ reported behavioral changes and their responses to environmental information. The findings are preliminary. The small sample size, incomplete travel records, and lack of a controlled comparison group limit the conclusions that can be drawn about the intervention’s effectiveness. The study provides exploratory evidence and practical lessons for designing future research on digital feedback, sustainable transportation, and behavioral change.
