Guided Endodontics: From Digital Planning to Precision Treatment
Endodontic treatment has traditionally relied on the clinician's ability to interpret two-dimensional radiographs, understand internal dental anatomy, and locate the root canal system through a combination of visual and tactile information. While these principles remain fundamental, complex anatomical situations can make conventional access preparation particularly demanding. Pulp canal obliteration, developmental anomalies, previous restorative procedures, trauma and extensive calcification may obscure the canal pathway and increase the possibility of excessive dentine removal or iatrogenic complications. Guided endodontics has emerged as a digital approach intended to address these challenges by transferring three-dimensional anatomical information into a preplanned clinical pathway.¹,²
