The Utilization of Audio Media in Improving Mahārah al-Istimā' in Arabic Language Learning

Listening skills (mahārah al-istimā') are one of the important aspects of learning Arabic because they play a role in helping students recognize sounds, understand vocabulary, and grasp the meaning of speech. However, learning listening skills still faces obstacles, such as difficulty distinguishing letter sounds, limited vocabulary mastery, and speech speed. This article aims to examine the use of audio media in supporting the development of mahārah al-istimā', its implementation strategies, and the supporting and inhibiting factors for its use. This study uses a qualitative method with a library research approach. Data was collected through relevant literature documentation and analyzed using content analysis techniques. The results of the study show that audio media has the potential to support listening skills through sound recognition, vocabulary comprehension, information identification, and interpretation of speech context. Its application can be carried out through the pre-listening, listening, and post-listening stages, and is supported by the use of digital audio sources. The success of its use depends on the quality of the recording, the suitability of the material with the ability of the students, the pedagogical competence of the teacher, the availability of facilities, and targeted evaluation. Thus, audio media can be an effective means of supporting Arabic language learning if it is systematically integrated with learning objectives and strategies. Further empirical studies are needed to test its effectiveness in a measurable manner.
