Effect of standing wave visibility on the fiber laser generation regime
Fiber lasers have numerous advantages, including wide variety of possible generation regimes. The formation of a standing wave in the laser active medium can cause the formation of dynamic population gratings (DPGs) [1].DPGs act as adaptive spectral filters: their formation in unpumped fibers (absorption DPGs) results in stable single-frequency generation [2], while their formation in pumped fibers (gain DPGs) may cause wavelength self-sweeping effect [3].It is known that the DPGs positioning in the cavity and their type strongly influence the lasing. In current study we consider a new approach of the generation regime control -by actively changing the visibility of the standing wave forming the DPG.
