5-μm terbium fiber laser with Bragg grating
Modern technology for producing chalcogenide glasses activated by rare-earth ions has enabled the development of a new class of bulk and fiber lasers operating in the mid-infrared range.Laser oscillations has been demonstrated using transitions between the first excited and ground levels of Ce 3+ , Pr 3+ , Nd 3+ , and Tb 3+ ions in the spectral range from 4.5 μm to 6.2 μm.
