Smith Coins: client-held progress tokens for data-minimised learning on the web
After years of struggle rejecting good resources because they hold client personal data and schools and educational organisations frown upon it due to data controler rejecting requests and issues with who offers the logins and passwords where the data is held, it gave rise to Smith Coins when I established Lessonsmith Ltd and was experimenting with an online emulator browser based which then needed an update on DPA documents for schools and educational organisations on data processing. I initially thought of smith coins for having a tangible online currency for students when they can use for scholarships, which was a little complicated at this stage with a lot of compliance and funding issues but it gave birth to Smith Coin.
