Contractualization in JNVs: Impact on Library Services and Professional Identity of Librarians
JNVs are one of the best residential schools in India, where students live and study. In JNVs, the library is the heart of the school but now many library jobs in JNVs are given on a contractual basis, so this paper talks about this problem. Based on personal observational experience and secondary data, this paper discusses problems like contract staff feeling no job security, contract staff and permanent staff not being treated the same and poor library work and student learning. This paper says that contract jobs solve the problem for now but slowly they harm the main value and quality of the library profession, so I also give some ideas to NVS to fix this problem.
