THE ROLE OF CLINICAL AND GENETIC DETERMINANTS IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF CARDIOMETABOLIC AND RENAL COMPLICATIONS IN PATIENTS WITH GOUT

This study investigated the relationship between metabolic syndrome (MS), cardiorenal syndrome (CRS), and overall coronary risk (OCR) and genetic determinants in patients with gout. A total of 90 patients were enrolled, and their clinical and laboratory parameters were analyzed in relation to polymorphisms in the VEGFA, eNOS, MTHFR, ABCD2, and MTR genes. A high cardiometabolic risk was identified in 54.4% of the patients. The Val allele of the MTHFR gene (OR = 3.4) and the G/G genotype of the VEGFA gene were identified as major risk factors. Furthermore, serum uric acid levels showed a strong association with reduced renal filtration (r = 0.72) and hepatic steatosis.
