Profound boredom and becomings: An exploration of an affective imprisonment
In this paper, I am exploring the affective intensity of profound boredom and how it became a transformational force that helped open my eyes to the wider social issues and injustices of imprisonment. A pathway leading into eventual academic activism, or as I term it, a Deleuzian becoming-activist. Profound boredom forced me into places of my mind that I didn’t know existed, carrying me into an existential crisis and an eventual philosophical awakening. Here I woke up to the indignities around me, seeing and feeling the intolerable, having my social consciousness activated for the first time. Each strand reacts to profound boredom, liminality and the endless drip of being stuck in the ever-present in prison time.
