The role of neuroprotection in treating oculomotor neuropathy in a child following endoscopic cystocisternostomy
This report presents a clinical case involving a 13-year-old patient diagnosed with an instrumentally confirmed arachnoid cyst located in the right Sylvian fissure (Galassi type III). Following the surgical procedure of endoscopic cystocisternostomy, the patient exhibited signs consistent with oculomotor nerve neuropathy on the right side. Consequently, Cytoflavin (inosine+nicotinamide+riboflavin+succinic acid) was included in the treatment regimen, administered intravenously at a dose of 10.0 g in 200 mL of 0.9% sodium chloride solution daily for 10 days. During the treatment, the patient’s condition stabilized, and neurological symptoms and endoscopic findings improved. Notably, there were no additional postoperative complications, such as repeated hemorrhage or inflammatory processes. This clinical observation underscores the efficacy of integrating neuroprotective agents into the comprehensive postoperative care of patients with arachnoid cysts and oculomotor neuropathy, providing a foundation for future research in this field.
